Iowa Stuns with Major Transfer Portal Signing, Landing Player of the Year
The Iowa Hawkeyes have made another major move in the NCAA transfer portal, continuing their roster overhaul with the addition of a standout player.
This time, Iowa has secured Alvaro Fogueiras, the Horizon League Player of the Year, who is transferring from Robert Morris.
Fogueiras had an outstanding 2024-25 season, averaging 14.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.2 blocks in 29.3 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 54.8% from the field, 41.3% from three-point range, and 78.4% from the free-throw line.

The 19-year-old from Spain began his college career at Robert Morris in 2023, playing a smaller role as a freshman with 5.3 points and 4.5 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game. His shooting was solid, hitting 45.6% from the floor and 28.6% from beyond the arc.
However, Fogueiras made a massive leap this past season, leading Robert Morris to a 26-9 record and a Horizon League title. His performance helped the team compete admirably against Alabama in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, though they ultimately fell 90-81.
Iowa fought off competition from Providence and Villanova to land Fogueiras, with new head coach Ben McCollum ultimately sealing the deal.
McCollum’s tenure has been hectic since he took over following the firing of Fran McCaffery last month. With a large number of players leaving via the transfer portal, McCollum faced a tough task in rebuilding the roster. So far, he has made significant strides, but it remains to be seen how the new pieces come together for the Hawkeyes on the court next season.
