Virginia Tech DB Cam Fleming Joins Transfer Portal
Virginia Tech defensive back Cam Fleming has become the latest player to enter the transfer portal, marking the seventh Hokies player to do so since the spring transfer window opened. Fleming, who served as a reserve defensive back during the 2023 season, recorded two tackles this past year. He was part of the 2023 recruiting class, where he was ranked as the No. 988 player in the country, the No. 98 cornerback, and the No. 28 player in Virginia according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Fleming joins a growing list of Hokies players looking for new opportunities, including quarterback Davi Belfort, offensive linemen Web Davidson and Caleb Nitta, linebacker Jayden McDonald, defensive lineman Jorden McDonald, and defensive back Braylon Johnson.
Virginia Tech’s linebacker corps will be a key area of focus during the current transfer portal window. The Hokies already lost two experienced linebackers, Sam Brumfield and Keli Lawson, during the winter window, leaving a gap that new defensive coordinator Sam Siefkes will need to address.

Jorden McDonald, who entered the portal as well, played four seasons with the Hokies, recording 11 tackles and 1.5 sacks. In the 2023 season, McDonald played a career-high 101 snaps, finishing with a 60.3 overall grade from Pro Football Focus.
Quarterback Davi Belfort, a redshirt freshman, recently impressed during Virginia Tech’s spring game, throwing for 51 yards on 7-11 passing, including a touchdown, and rushing for an additional 36 yards. Belfort, a former Under Armour All-American, had offers from top programs like Alabama, Florida, and Michigan before committing to the Hokies.
247Sports ranks Belfort as the 50th-best quarterback in the 2023 recruiting class. They describe him as an undersized but scrappy competitor with a unique background—he is the son of MMA legend Vitor Belfort. Belfort, originally slated to graduate in 2025, moved up a year in 2022 and enrolled at Miami’s Gulliver Prep. Despite an injury-plagued season, he still accumulated 2,300 total yards and 16 touchdowns. Belfort is known for his quick release and ability to make plays under pressure, though he will need to refine his passing skills and adjust to the speed of college football. His skill set suggests he may thrive in a spread offense that uses play-action to allow him to create plays on the move.
