Duke Basketball Eyes Cedric Coward as Potential Transfer Target

Duke basketball remains a strong contender in the recruitment of former Washington State standout Cedric Coward. While the Blue Devils have yet to gain or lose any players via the transfer portal this cycle, it seems likely that head coach Jon Scheyer and his staff will look to fill a few remaining spots on the roster for next season.

One potential addition to watch is Coward, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard/forward who previously played at Washington State and Eastern Washington. Recently, Coward listed Duke among his top five choices in his transfer recruitment, sparking buzz among national insiders about the Blue Devils’ chances of landing him. According to Jeff Goodman from The Field of 68, the primary contenders for Coward’s commitment are Duke and Alabama.

Coward, who is also testing the NBA Draft waters, spent one season at Washington State, two seasons at Eastern Washington, and a freshman year at Division III Willamette. Last season, he averaged 17.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.7 blocks over six games before a rotator cuff injury cut his season short, granting him a redshirt year and another year of eligibility.

Cedric Coward is being heavily linked to Duke & Alabama.

At the Division I level, Coward has shot an impressive 59.5 percent from the field, 38.3 percent from three-point range, and 83.2 percent from the free-throw line over the course of his career. With his combination of size, skill, and experience, he could be a valuable addition to Duke’s roster for the 2025-26 season.
