Gators Among Top-Five for Blue-Chip WR Recruit, Seen as Favorites
The Florida Gators are in the final five for a highly sought-after blue-chip wide receiver recruit, with major recruiting services naming them the favorites. Somourian Wingo, the recruit in question, shared a graphic on his personal X account listing Florida, Alabama, South Carolina, Miami, and LSU as his top contenders.
The Gators face stiff competition from some of their biggest rivals for Wingo’s commitment. However, having former Gators running back and two-time BCS national champion Brandon James as the offensive coordinator could provide an edge—though it doesn’t guarantee Florida will land him.
While no predictions have been made on 247 Sports, On3 is optimistic about Florida’s chances, giving them a 36.4% likelihood of securing Wingo, the highest of any school. Miami follows with a 27.9% chance.
Wingo, a four-star recruit, is ranked No. 165 nationally and is considered one of the top 25 wide receiver prospects by 247 Sports. He is set to visit Florida officially on June 6.
Florida has made significant changes to its wide receiver corps recently. Notable incoming freshmen include legacy Gator Vernell Brown III and Tampa native Dallas Wilson, who switched his commitment from Oregon to Florida at the last minute. UCLA transfer J. Michael Sturdivant could also bring a spark to the passing game if healthy.

Returning players like Eugene Wilson III and Aiden Mizell are also expected to make an impact. Wilson, who missed time due to injury last season, is anticipated to be fully recovered, while Mizell, despite limited action as a freshman, had standout moments, particularly in the rivalry game against Georgia.
Should Wingo commit, he would join a potentially explosive offensive group in 2026, with quarterback DJ Lagway leading the charge alongside talented receivers.
Florida’s 2026 recruiting class currently includes two commits: quarterback Will Griffin and linebacker Izayia Williams. Safety Devin Jackson recently decommitted, and no wide receivers have yet committed to the Gators for this cycle.
