The 6-foot, 196-pound slot receiver details his UNC commitment.
Former Tennessee wide receiver Dayton Sneed has announced his commitment to North Carolina through the NCAA Transfer Portal, sharing the news via Instagram on Tuesday.
Sneed spent two seasons at Tennessee, where he played in seven games. Last year, he recorded one catch for 12 yards, and during his freshman year, he had another catch for seven yards.
Before college, Sneed played high school football at Donelson Christian Academy in Tennessee, where he was considered an unranked player in the 2023 recruiting cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which averages data from major recruiting outlets. In his senior year, he set school records with 1,214 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns in a single season.
For his accomplishments, Sneed was named the 2021 TSSAA Div. II-A Offensive Player of the Year and earned First-Team All-State honors. Despite limited experience at the collegiate level, he ranks as the No. 494 wide receiver in On3’s 2025 Transfer Portal Player Rankings.
Sneed becomes the 27th addition for North Carolina via the Transfer Portal this offseason. The Tar Heels have seen substantial roster changes with the hiring of renowned head coach Bill Belichick.
The program has lost 32 players to the portal but is still ranked No. 31 in On3’s 2025 Team Transfer Portal Rankings. Fans are eager to see what Belichick will achieve in his first season in charge. The 73-year-old coach expressed confidence in assembling a talented team for the 2025 season.
“We want to be a national school, and we are a national school. It is a national brand, and everybody wants to go to Carolina,” Belichick stated in February. “We know it’s challenging for out-of-state students to gain acceptance, but we’ve seen significant interest from athletes nationwide wanting to join the program.
“We’re active everywhere. While recruiting North Carolina is our top priority, we also aim to establish a national presence for those who want to come here.”
