Illinois Defensive Lineman Alex Bray Reportedly Enters Transfer Portal

Illinois’ defensive line, expected to be a strength this season after adding transfers James Thompson, Curt Neal, and Tomiwa Durojaiye, has been hit with a potential setback. Defensive end Alex Bray, a sophomore from Chesterfield, Missouri, reportedly entered the transfer portal on Tuesday, according to Allen Trieu of 247 Sports.

If confirmed, Bray’s departure brings the total number of Illinois players entering the transfer portal this spring to six. The loss of Bray, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound defensive end, is notable because he was likely in contention for a starting role or at least a significant increase in playing time.

In his second season at Illinois, Bray recorded 20 tackles and played in all 13 games. Despite limited snaps, he registered six quarterback pressures and showed flashes of potential in 2024. A former three-star recruit, Bray still has two years of eligibility left and significant upside after a notable increase in playing time from his freshman year. However, Bray has not yet revealed his intentions or a list of potential destinations.
