LSU is making significant strides in securing one of the most coveted tight ends in the 2026 recruiting class, California’s Israel Briggs. The four-star prospect from Visalia (Calif.) Redwood High School has quickly risen to prominence after an outstanding junior season, showcasing his versatility on the field. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 200 pounds, Briggs is a consensus Top-10 tight end in the country, drawing interest from over 20 programs, including heavyweights like Alabama, Michigan, and UCLA.

Briggs’ recruitment took a turn when he decommitted from Arizona State, opening the door for a more competitive chase. LSU, under head coach Brian Kelly, quickly made their move, extending an offer to the multi-sport standout in February. The Tigers wasted no time getting Briggs on campus for a visit, and they are now aggressively pursuing his commitment.

What makes Briggs such an intriguing prospect is his all-around skill set. Known for his adaptability, he has excelled in multiple sports, including basketball and track. In addition to his football accolades, he’s a two-time all-league selection in basketball and has posted impressive track times, with a personal best of 11.42 in the 100-meter dash and a long jump of 21 feet, 10 inches. These athletic abilities make him a rare combination of size, speed, and agility—qualities that make him an ideal fit for the tight end position.

Briggs’ football career has been equally impressive. As a junior, he hauled in 44 catches for 571 yards and eight touchdowns. His basketball background is evident in his ability to track the ball downfield, win 50-50 catches, and make defenders miss after the catch. He also brings a strong edge to his game, contributing as a willing blocker, a key asset for any program looking to add a well-rounded tight end to their roster.

LSU has already secured an official visit with Briggs this summer, scheduled for June 7 in Baton Rouge. This visit is expected to play a pivotal role in the Tigers’ efforts to land the talented tight end. Briggs is also slated to visit Cal, Miami, and Texas A&M, with those programs likely looking to make a strong push of their own.

LSU is determined to make Briggs a priority, and the early signs are promising. As one of the most sought-after athletes in the West Coast class, Briggs could be a game-changing addition for the Tigers if they are able to seal the deal. With his combination of size, athleticism, and versatility, he would be a perfect fit for LSU’s offense, offering the potential to make an immediate impact.
