Deion Sanders, Colorado Buffaloes Lose Another Offensive Lineman to Transfer Portal

The Colorado Buffaloes are facing another blow as offensive lineman Zechariah Owens has entered the NCAA transfer portal for the second time in two years. Owens’ departure adds to the growing list of offensive linemen who have transferred out of the program.

After the spring transfer portal opened, the Buffaloes were already dealing with significant turnover in their offensive line. Owens, who joined Colorado last year after transferring from Clemson, is the latest to make his exit.

Recruited by Clemson as a four-star prospect, Owens has yet to fully realize his potential on the field. After limited playing time at Clemson, he transferred to Colorado, where he appeared in 10 games during his one season. Though he contributed on special teams, playing 51 snaps with the field goal unit, Owens only saw 11 snaps on offense.

Now entering the portal for the second time in two years, Owens is ranked as a three-star prospect and is listed as the No. 366 player overall and the No. 18 offensive tackle in the portal, according to On3’s rankings.

While Owens wasn’t a starter for Colorado, his departure is still a significant loss for the Buffaloes. He becomes the ninth offensive lineman to enter the transfer portal since the winter. Other linemen who have left the program include Jay Gardenhire, Cash Cleveland, Kahlil Benson, Hank Zilinskas, Ethan Boyd, Tyler Johnson, Yakiri Walker, and Payton Kirkland.
