With a lot of attention surrounding the Jets’ No. 7 pick and the overall direction of the team, it’s clear that a new era has begun in New York. New York has made a concerted effort to inject youth and upside into their roster, especially with players like Justin Fields. As the NFL Draft nears on Thursday, it’s the final stretch for speculation and rumors. While the Jets hold the No. 7 pick, could they look to trade down? Pro Football Focus’ Thomas Valentine suggested a potential deal with the Dallas Cowboys, where the Jets would move back to No. 12.
Valentine proposed this trade scenario: Jets Receive: Picks No. 12, 76, and 247; Cowboys Receive: Picks No. 7 and 186. With a new regime and a new quarterback, the Jets are in a delicate position. There are questions about the front office’s vision for the roster, and if the Cowboys offer the Jets a chance to trade down and gain additional picks, they might consider it.
If the Jets trade down, the top two offensive tackles could be off the board by the time they pick at No. 7, making a trade-down move appealing. They’d still have the chance to select a top receiver at No. 12, helping to address their wide receiver and offensive line needs.
This trade could allow the Jets to bring in another playmaker alongside Garrett Wilson, potentially targeting top receivers like Tetairoa McMillan from Arizona or Matthew Golden from Texas.
