Texas Tech Football: Freshman WR Enters Transfer Portal
Texas Tech is losing a freshman wide receiver to the transfer portal after just one season in Lubbock. L.J. Johnson Jr, who redshirted during his freshman year, announced he is entering the transfer portal.
A former three-star recruit, Johnson was part of the Red Raiders’ 2024 class. While he spent the season on the scout team, he did not see any game action as a true freshman.

“I would like to thank Texas Tech for everything they’ve done for me,” Johnson wrote on Twitter/X. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to be around such a great team, staff, and academic advisors. After much thought and prayer, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.”
Johnson, who hails from Madisonville High School in East Texas, had an impressive senior season, catching 54 passes for 940 yards and 11 touchdowns. Although he also played defensive back in high school, his success as a wide receiver caught the attention of recruiters. With four years of eligibility left, he still has plenty of time to develop into a standout player at his next destination.
