Kansas Transfer Rylan Griffen Considering Return to Alabama
After a tough 2024-2025 season, Kansas saw many players, including Rylan Griffen, depart through the transfer portal. Griffen, who was expected to be a key contributor for the Jayhawks, is now looking at a potential return to his previous school, Alabama.
Griffen originally played his first two years of college basketball at Alabama before transferring to Kansas. In his freshman season with the Crimson Tide, he averaged 5.9 points and 2.6 rebounds, playing in all 37 games. By his sophomore year, Griffen became a key player for Alabama, putting up 11.9 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and shooting 39.2% from three-point range, helping the team reach the Final Four.

Seeking more opportunity, Griffen transferred to Kansas but faced disappointment, with the team falling in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and his individual numbers dropping to 6.3 points per game and 33.6% from deep. Now, Griffen is once again in the transfer portal, and Alabama is a strong contender for his services.
Griffen is scheduled to visit Alabama on Friday as he considers a reunion with head coach Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide. While Kentucky and Miami were previously in the mix, both programs have likely filled their rosters. Texas A&M, where Griffen would return to his home state of Texas, and Missouri are also in the running.
A potential return to Alabama would be another example of players transferring back to their former programs, a growing trend in the evolving landscape of college basketball.
