Spring football has concluded, and Virginia has quickly begun making moves in the spring transfer window, adding some key players to address critical needs on the roster. With these new additions and other personnel changes from spring practices, let’s take another look at our projected depth chart for Virginia football for the 2025 season.

Virginia Offense Insights
At quarterback, Chandler Morris and Daniel Kaelin remain the projected starter and backup, respectively, while Gavin Frakes has entered the transfer portal. However, the team retains depth with Grady Brosterhous and incoming freshmen Bjorn Jurgensen and Cole Geer.
In the backfield, Xavier Brown and J’Mari Taylor are still expected to be RB1 and RB2, with new addition Isaiah Augustave from Colorado enhancing the depth after leading the Buffaloes in rushing last season.
The wide receiver lineup has not changed, with Trell Harris, Jahmal Edrine, and Kam Courtney as starters, supported by Andre Greene Jr., Jayden Thomas, and Suderian Harrison. Josiah Abdullah is making a push for playing time following an impressive spring game performance.
At tight end, Dakota Twitty, Hayden Rollison, and John Rogers all shone in spring, but Sage Ennis remains the primary run-blocking tight end upon his return from injury.
Significant changes have occurred on the offensive line. Louisville transfer Monroe Mills is expected to miss the entire 2025 season due to an ACL injury. Blake Steen has transferred to Mississippi State. Virginia has brought in Wallace Unamba from Kentucky, placing him at right tackle, with Ben York as the backup. Brady Wilson stays at center, with Noah Josey at left guard and McKale Boley at left tackle. Drake Metcalf has moved to starting right guard after spending much of the spring in that role. Expect transfers Tyshawn Wyatt or Kevin Wigenton II to see significant playing time across various positions.

Virginia Defense Insights
No changes at the defensive tackle spots, with Jahmeer Carter and Jason Hammond expected to start, backed by Anthony Britton and Alabama transfer Hunter Osborne.
Virginia has added edge rusher Daniel Rickert from Tennessee Tech, who accumulated 19 sacks in his college career. However, current transfers including Mitchell Melton, Cazeem Moore, and Fisher Camac, along with senior Terrell Jones, remain ahead of him.
The linebacker corps is strong, with James Jackson, Kam Robinson, and Trey McDonald returning, while Stevie Bracey and Myles Brown have demonstrated quality during spring, though they are not currently projected for the depth chart. Maddox Marcellus has also joined via the transfer portal.
Movement is anticipated in the secondary before the season begins. Starting cornerback Jam Jackson sustained an injury in spring practice, which could lead to Ja’son Prevard or Dre Walker stepping in. Virginia has secured Jordan Robinson from Cincinnati as a potential starter. Safety looks stable with Antonio Clary and Louisville transfer Devin Neal in place, along with Caleb Hardy in the versatile SPUR/nickel role.

Virginia Special Teams Insights
The only notable change in special teams is freshman Josiah Abdullah, who excelled as a returner during the spring game, recording a 45-yard kickoff return and leading with 92 all-purpose yards. He is set to back up JMU transfer Cam Ross in the kickoff return role. The rest of the special teams unit remains unchanged, with all kickers and punters returning from last season and the addition of PFF All-American long snapper Bryce Robinson.
