The Wisconsin Badgers have found a replacement for Tanner Koziol in the transfer portal with a standout tight end from a smaller program. Lance Mason, a senior tight end from Missouri State, committed to Wisconsin on Friday, filling the gap left by Koziol’s departure a week earlier.
While Mason may come from the FCS level, his impressive stats as a junior make him a valuable addition to the Badgers’ offense. He recorded 34 receptions for 590 yards and six touchdowns, showcasing his ability to make plays. Averaging over 17 yards per catch, Mason possesses the speed to break away from defenders and rack up yards after the catch. According to PFF, he averaged 12.5 yards after each reception and only dropped one pass throughout the season.

In addition to his receiving skills, Mason has experience as a blocker in Missouri State’s run-heavy offense, making him a strong fit for Jeff Grimes’ system.
Credit to head coach Luke Fickell for adapting quickly after his initial tight end target didn’t work out. Mason now has the opportunity to shine at the FBS level and prove himself on a larger stage.
