Welcome to another edition of 6-Banner Sunday, produced jointly by The Assembly Call and Inside the Hall, where we spotlight the five most important stories from the past week in IU basketball, along with updates on other IU sports programs.
As we near the completion of a complete program overhaul, Darian DeVries is actively reshaping his roster for the upcoming season. In recent days, significant steps have been taken in this process. While the women’s team enjoys some stability, they too are refreshing their roster and recently added another player.
Additionally, we’ll catch you up on where former Hoosiers are heading in the NFL and provide updates on Hoosiers competing in the NBA playoffs. As usual, we’ll wrap up with weekly shows and a glance at other Indiana sports, including a major matchup announced for the soccer team’s season opener next fall.

Banner #1 – IU adds three more commitments from the transfer portal
Darian DeVries continues to enhance his roster as the complete reset unfolds. It’s confirmed that DeVries’ son, Tucker, will join him on campus, along with incoming freshman Trent Sisley. Luke Goode is seeking a medical redshirt, while DePaul transfer Conor Enright and Davidson transfer Reed Bailey are already on board. Additionally, Lamar Wilkerson, Tayton Conerway, and Jasai Miles remain committed as of this week.
Recently, the program welcomed new recruits Jason Drake from Drexel, Nick Dorn from Elon, and Sam Alexis from Florida. This strong incoming class includes five players ranked in the 247Sports top 150. Inside the Hall has also analyzed the current status of all Big Ten rosters.
Banner #2 – Women’s basketball secures a point guard from the portal
The women’s basketball team is also refreshing its roster after several years of stability challenged by graduations and transfers. Recently, they successfully recruited Virginia’s Edessa Noyan, UCLA’s Zania Socka-Nguemen, Alabama’s Chloe Spreen, and Arkansas’ Phoenix Stotijn from the portal.
In the last few days, they welcomed a fifth player, Jerni Kiaku from Duquesne, who was a consistent starter for the Dukes. This week also saw a coaching staff change, with Linda Sayavongchanh stepping down as an assistant coach and Colsten Thompson taking over. Thompson previously helped sign two top-15 recruiting classes at Alabama.
Banner #3 – Two former IU football players drafted into the NFL
Following a record-setting season for IU that concluded with a college football playoff appearance, two standout players were selected in the NFL Draft. Both landed with the San Francisco 49ers: linebacker CJ West in the fourth round and quarterback Kurtis Rourke in the seventh round.
Banner #4 – Hoosiers in the NBA playoffs
Several former Hoosiers are competing in the NBA playoffs, with four players still in contention. New York’s OG Anunoby, local talent Thomas Bryant from Indiana, Golden State’s Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Miami’s Kel’el Ware are all working towards a championship. Anunoby, Bryant, and Jackson-Davis currently hold leads of 2-1 in their series, while Ware’s team is trailing 3-0.
Banner #5 – Podcast on the Brink and Back Home Network shows
The Podcast on the Brink returned this week, featuring discussions by Inside the Hall alum William McDermott on IU’s transfer portal gains. The Back Home Network has also been active, with multiple shows airing recently, including episodes of Crimson Cast and Doing The Work.
Banner #6 – Hoosier Roundup
• Soccer has announced a marquee matchup for its fall season opener, hosting Clemson on August 21.
• Kappa Alpha Theta won the Little 500 for women, while the Black Key Bulls took the title for men.
• Baseball had an up-and-down week but ended on a high note by winning their series finale against Maryland and defeating Ball State, despite losing two games to Iowa. Several players received accolades, and a couple of former Hoosiers made their MLB debuts.
• Softball achieved a win against Ball State but lost twice to Oregon.
• Rowing claimed victory at the Dale England Cup.
• Men’s Golf finished fifth at the Boilermaker Invitational.
• Women’s golf placed 16th at the Big Ten Championship, with a few players earning postseason invitations.
• Men’s tennis triumphed over Penn State to conclude their season.
• Women’s tennis faced defeat against Northwestern, but one player earned academic honors.
• Water polo finished their season with losses to USC and Arizona State.
• Volleyball is set to participate in media day later this summer.
• Swimming and diving celebrated six All-American athletes.
• Seven wrestlers will compete at the US Open.
