UNC Basketball Linked to Exceptional Talent, Tracked ‘For Years’ in Impressive Hubert Davis Coup

UNC Basketball Makes Cut for Elite Forward Anthony Thompson

The UNC basketball program is still in the running for five-star forward Anthony Thompson, who revealed his top 15 schools this weekend.

Back in early January, the 6-foot-8, 185-pound small forward from Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) received an offer from UNC head coach Hubert Davis and his staff. Nearly four months later, Thompson has placed the Tar Heels among his top choices.

Thompson announced his list of contenders on social media, which includes BYU, Texas, Xavier, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Georgetown, Indiana, Auburn, Notre Dame, Purdue, Ohio State, Michigan State, Michigan, and North Carolina.

The southpaw, who has already accumulated over 30 offers early in his 2026 recruiting cycle, is ranked No. 11 overall, No. 3 among small forwards, and No. 1 in Ohio on the 247Sports 2026 Composite.

247Sports’ Eric Bossi recently praised Thompson’s shooting ability, describing his jump shot as one of the best in the gym, while also noting his impressive nearly 7-foot-3 wingspan.

UNC basketball has been active in the 2026 recruiting class, making double-digit offers and staying competitive for many top prospects.
