Last season, the SEC established itself as the top conference in college basketball.
The conference produced the national champion, Florida, and saw several other teams excel in the NCAA Tournament, including Auburn, which reached the Final Four.
Under head coach Bruce Pearl, Auburn achieved a remarkable 32-win season, the highest in the program’s history. The team was driven by experienced players, such as Naismith Player of the Year finalist Johni Broome, along with Miles Kelly and Chad Baker-Mazara.
After the season concluded, Baker-Mazara unexpectedly decided to enter the transfer portal.
On Monday, he announced his commitment to USC, where he is set to continue his college basketball career in the Big Ten.
“Dreams turned into reality!! Let’s go to work!! #committed,” Baker-Mazara expressed.
Baker-Mazara is rated as a four-star transfer by the 247Sports recruiting site. Although he was unranked upon graduating high school, he was instrumental in the Auburn Tigers’ achievements in the SEC.
Originally from the Dominican Republic, he is currently ranked as the No. 5 small forward and the No. 24 overall player in the transfer portal, according to 247Sports.
Baker-Mazara was anticipated to have a significant impact for the Tigers next season, particularly following Broome’s departure.
During the previous season with the Auburn Tigers, Baker-Mazara averaged 12.3 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game.
He has been with Auburn for the past two seasons, after previously playing at Duquesne and San Diego State earlier in his collegiate basketball journey.
