Cowboys Sign Auburn TE Rivaldo Fairweather as Undrafted Free Agent
Former Auburn tight end Rivaldo Fairweather has signed with the Dallas Cowboys as an undrafted free agent.
Fairweather was Auburn’s starting tight end for the past two seasons after transferring from Florida International, where he spent his first three years in college. During his time at FIU, he played in 26 games, totaling 54 receptions for 838 yards and five touchdowns.
Upon transferring to Auburn, Fairweather quickly claimed the starting tight end position. Over two seasons with the Tigers, he played in 25 games, recording 69 catches for 766 yards and eight touchdowns. His departure leaves a significant void at tight end that Auburn will need to address before the start of the season.
Now, Fairweather heads to Dallas, where he’ll compete for a spot on the Cowboys’ roster. He’ll likely vie for a backup role or a position on special teams. With returning starter Jake Ferguson and backup Luke Schoonmaker firmly entrenched in their roles, Fairweather will face tough competition. Schoonmaker, who started six games last season, played all 17 games, while Ferguson was sidelined due to injury in 2024.
Fairweather’s main competition for a roster spot will come from Brevyn Spann-Ford, who had a limited impact as a rookie last year with just nine receptions, and Princeton Fant, who didn’t see any game action in 2024.
If Fairweather can impress the coaching staff during OTAs and summer workouts, the Cowboys may consider him for either the 53-man roster or the practice squad. This will be a key storyline to follow as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
