AMES, Iowa – Iowa State men’s basketball coach T.J. Otzelberger has announced that Mason Williams, a transfer from Eastern Washington, will be joining the Cyclones for the 2025-26 season. Williams becomes the second transfer to commit to Iowa State, following Eric Mulder, who transferred from Purdue Fort Wayne.
A 6-5 guard from Seattle, Williams attended O’Dea High School and played the last two seasons with the Eastern Washington Eagles, where he will have two years of eligibility remaining at Iowa State.
Last season, he started 22 of the 27 games he participated in, missing five due to an early-season injury. Williams achieved a career-high average of 13.9 points per game, along with 3.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He ranked ninth in scoring within the Big Sky Conference and was second in free throw percentage at 83.7%.
“Mason brings impressive size and length at the guard position, contributing on both ends of the court,” Otzelberger noted. “He possesses a natural scoring ability and is crafty in his approach. His basketball IQ and skill set allow him to apply pressure on defenses and create opportunities for teammates. Mason is a character-driven individual who takes great pride in his work ethic and development.”
During his time with Eastern Washington, Williams scored in double figures in 17 out of 27 games, including seven occasions where he surpassed 20 points. His career-high came with 35 points on 12-of-15 shooting against Idaho State. He also had standout performances of 29 points in a win over Sacramento State and 28 points against Montana. Williams closed out the season with two consecutive games scoring over 20 points. In his third game of the season, he scored 20 points against Missouri. Over 44 career games, he has averaged 10.0 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, while shooting 43.1% from the field and 37.2% from three-point range.
