Milwaukee didn’t see a long-term future with him and decided to move on. However, Williams has struggled in New York, and his performance has even cost him the closer role for now.

Meanwhile, the Brewers have called up 25-year-old infielder Caleb Durbin, and he’s been solid in his early stint with the team. In 10 games, Durbin is hitting .250/.333/.406 with one home run, five RBIs, one stolen base, and five runs scored. He’s contributed across the board and has been a solid addition, particularly helping shore up the Brewers’ third base position.

Durbin, who’s under team control for several years, has shown promise and provides Milwaukee with a lot of potential moving forward. On the other hand, New York might only have Williams for one season, and they haven’t gotten the same long-term value that Milwaukee had with him. The Yankees still have questions to address at both the closer role and in the infield.

So far, the trade looks like a win for the Brewers, even though things could change down the line. The Brewers’ front office comes out looking good in this deal, while the Yankees’ side of the transaction isn’t looking as strong right now.
