Giannis Antetokounmpo Shares Thoughts on Damian Lillard After Injury
Giannis Antetokounmpo expressed his support for his Milwaukee Bucks teammate, Damian Lillard, after the All-Star point guard suffered a season-ending injury.
The Bucks have faced difficulty achieving playoff success since their 2021 NBA Championship win over the Phoenix Suns, and their struggles continued on Sunday when Lillard went down with a torn left Achilles tendon. According to Bucks.com, the injury occurred during the first quarter of the game against the Indiana Pacers, and Lillard will miss the rest of the 2025 Playoffs while undergoing surgery to repair the damage.
Following a 129-103 loss to the Pacers, two-time MVP Giannis spoke to the media about his teammate’s situation.
“He’s a competitor. He wants to play in big games, he wants to help the team win,” Giannis said. “When you see a guy like that, not able to walk on his own… it might be serious. At the end of the day, we’re all going to pray for him, support him, and be there for him. He’s part of our team, he’s our leader. No matter what happens, we’ll be there for him.”
Lillard, now in his second season with the Bucks, had been a key addition to the roster. The team had high hopes coming off a tough first-round loss to the Pacers in the 2024 Playoffs, and now they find themselves down 3-1 in their current series, with Game 4 set for Tuesday night in Indiana.
