CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Head coach Brad Underwood announced on Monday that Andrej Stojakovic has officially signed a Big Ten Athletics Aid Agreement with the University of Illinois, joining the Fighting Illini as a transfer.
Stojakovic, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound guard from Carmichael, California, will become a junior after a standout season at Cal, following his time at Stanford, where he played during the 2023-24 season.
“Andrej is a seasoned scorer who excels in all aspects of the game: catch and shoot, off the dribble, and post-ups,” Underwood stated. “He possesses great size on the perimeter, strong ball-handling skills, excellent playmaking abilities, quickness on defense, and a talent for blocking shots. His experience, basketball IQ, and productivity make him a vital addition for us. He’s had excellent coaching and demonstrates a deep understanding of both offensive and defensive play.”
At Cal, Stojakovic was a key contributor, averaging 17.9 points per game, which led the team and ranked him sixth in the ACC. He scored in double figures in 25 out of 29 games, achieving 20 or more points in 13 games, including three contests where he surpassed 30 points. He finished the season on a high note, scoring a career-high 37 points against Stanford in the ACC Tournament’s second round (3/12/25) and 29 points against Virginia Tech in the first round (3/11/25), earning a spot on the ACC All-Tournament First Team.
Stojakovic was also named to the NABC All-Pacific District Second Team and received All-ACC Honorable Mention, with season averages of 17.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.2 blocks. He led the Bears in blocks with 34, including a career-best six blocks against Notre Dame (3/8/25). He recorded his first career double-double at Stanford, contributing 16 points and a personal-best 10 rebounds (2/22/25).
As a freshman at Stanford, Stojakovic started 10 of 32 games, averaging 7.8 points and 3.4 rebounds, and had nine games with double-digit scoring, highlighted by a season-high 20 points against USC (2/10/24).
Over 61 games in his college career, Stojakovic has averaged 12.6 points and 4.0 rebounds while shooting 42% overall, with 32.1% from three-point range and 76.6% from the free-throw line.
Stojakovic was a 2023 McDonald’s All-American and graduated from Jesuit High School. He was ranked as the No. 19 player nationally by 247 Sports, No. 22 by ESPN, No. 35 by On3, and No. 41 by Rivals in the 2023 class.
He is the son of NBA great Peja Stojakovic, a three-time All-Star who enjoyed a successful 13-year career and won an NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011 in his final season.
Stojakovic’s signing is the second major transfer addition for the Illini, following Zvonimir Ivisic’s transfer from Arkansas.
Coming off a 22-win season and an NCAA Tournament second-round appearance, Illinois is the most successful team in Big Ten play over the past six years during Underwood’s tenure, being one of only four teams nationally to achieve six consecutive 20-win regular seasons.
