Tulane Football Strengthens Offensive Line with Key Transfer from TCU
Tulane Green Wave football has added much-needed depth to their offensive line by bringing in former TCU Horned Frogs offensive lineman Mitch Hodnett through the transfer portal.
According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Hodnett, a 6-foot-5, 295-pound native of Monroe, Louisiana, will be joining Tulane after not seeing game action in his first season at TCU. The redshirt freshman arrives with four years of eligibility remaining, making him a valuable asset for the Green Wave moving forward.
Hodnett was ranked as the No. 27 interior offensive lineman and No. 29 overall prospect in Louisiana by the 247Sports composite rankings. He had a strong spring showing at TCU, where he received increased reps during the team’s 13 practices, primarily working as a right guard on the second offensive line unit.
While Hodnett primarily played left tackle in high school, his role at TCU involved a shift to the interior. It’s still unclear where he will fit into Tulane’s offensive line, but he’s expected to contribute significantly as the Green Wave looks to rebuild the unit.
In addition to football, Hodnett was a standout in track and field, finishing as a top-five performer in the Louisiana 3A shot put finals with a 48-2 throw during his junior year. His multi-sport background highlights his athleticism and versatility, making him an intriguing prospect for Tulane.
Hodnett had previously been recruited by Tulane out of high school, though he ultimately chose TCU over offers from Kansas State, Houston, Memphis, and Oklahoma State. Now, he returns to his home state, where he could play a key role in Tulane’s offensive line development.
With only two returning starters—left tackle and left guard—Tulane faces the challenge of retooling its offensive line. The unit’s performance will be crucial, perhaps even more so than the quarterback competition, as the team seeks to solidify its foundation in the trenches.
This marks a strong addition for first-year offensive line coach Evan McKissack, who will be working alongside assistant Kanan Ray. The Green Wave have made several portal pickups but have also lost a few players, including Robbie Pizzolato, Gabe Fortson, and Jude McCoskey.
While Hodnett doesn’t yet have proven game experience, his upside and the potential for development under Coach Sumrall’s staff make him an exciting prospect. Sumrall’s commitment to developing younger talent and giving freshmen playing time in blowout games is likely to appeal to Hodnett as he competes for a spot on a revamped offensive line that could see open competition from center to right tackle.
