Former Colorado cornerback Colton Hood announced Friday that he will transfer to Tennessee.

Hood was initially projected to step into a key role in Colorado’s secondary, filling the void left by Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.

In his lone season under head coach Deion Sanders in 2024, Hood tallied 24 tackles and two interceptions across 13 games.

A Georgia native, Hood began his college career at Auburn, where he saw action in four games as a freshman in 2023.

Speaking with On3.com, Hood cited Tennessee’s “culture and history” and praised the authenticity of head coach Josh Heupel.

“They basically told me I could come in and contribute right away,” Hood said. “That meant a lot to me.”

He also emphasized how meaningful it was to return closer to home and compete in the SEC.

“Being at Colorado was tough because it’s so far from home,” Hood said. “Being closer now is a big deal. And playing against the best in the SEC—that’s exciting for someone like me who thrives on competition.”

Tennessee, coming off a 10-3 season, will open the 2025 campaign against Syracuse on Aug. 30 in Atlanta.
