Tennessee has an opening on staff.
Tennessee saw a departure from its coaching staff this week as Rod Clark chose to take a new opportunity at Indiana. He’ll be part of Darian DeVries’ inaugural staff in Bloomington, aiming to assist in revitalizing the Hoosiers program.

Rod Clark joined Tennessee’s coaching staff in 2021 and played a key role in recruiting standout players such as Kennedy Chandler, Julian Phillips, Dalton Knecht, and Chaz Lanier to Knoxville. Before his time with the Volunteers, Clark had coaching stints at Austin Peay and Illinois-Chicago.
“Rod did a great job,” head coach Rick Barnes said this week. “But we feel confident about where we’re headed. I’m sure he’ll do well at Indiana, but we’ve got the position pretty much filled. A lot of people want to be part of this program, and we’re excited about our direction.”
Speculation continues to swirl about potential additions to the staff, with some connecting the dots to former Texas coach Rodney Terry—once Barnes’ trusted assistant in Austin. Many believed a reunion on Rocky Top was possible after Texas parted ways with Terry last month.
For now, Justin Gainey, Gregg Polinsky, Bryan Lentz, and Lucas Campbell remain on staff, and it appears Tennessee is close to finalizing its next move.
