Big man Federiko Federiko quickly became a fan favorite during his lone season with Texas Tech basketball. However, that support may now be harder to come by after his decision to finish his college career elsewhere.
Multiple social media reports confirm that the 6-foot-11 senior has committed to Texas A&M, making it tough for Red Raider fans to cheer him on moving forward.
Federiko joins an Aggies program entering a new era under head coach Bucky McMillian, who arrived from Samford to replace Buzz Williams, now at Maryland. McMillian has been busy reshaping the roster, and Federiko marks his eighth transfer addition of the offseason — four of whom are rated as 4-star transfers.

Federiko Federiko may not have been among the prized 4-star transfers this offseason, but he carved out a valuable role during his time at Texas Tech. The 6-foot-11 big man averaged 5.1 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks per game last season — modest numbers that reflected his backup status. He logged just 18.9 minutes per game, the lowest of his career, and started only six times.
Still, Federiko earned the respect of Red Raider fans for his effort and toughness, especially as he played through a lingering shoulder injury during Tech’s run to the Elite Eight — just the third such appearance in program history. His relentless motor and willingness to contribute, even with limitations, made him a fan favorite despite his brief tenure.
Whether it was his near-7-foot frame or his gritty playing style, Federiko became a beloved figure in Lubbock. That makes his transfer to Texas A&M especially tough for Red Raider fans to stomach — not out of bitterness toward him personally, but because he’s now suiting up for one of the most disliked rivals in Raiderland.
Adding to the tension, Texas Tech is tentatively scheduled to host A&M this season, following the Aggies’ cancellation of their trip to Lubbock last year. With new leadership in College Station, the game’s status remains uncertain — but if it happens, Tech fans will likely cheer against a player they were recently proud to call their own.
