Top Cornerback Recruit Elbert Hill Chooses USC Trojans Over Oregon Ducks
Elbert Hill, a four-star cornerback from the 2026 class, had been heavily recruited by the Oregon Ducks, even scheduling an official visit for this summer. However, Hill announced his commitment to the USC Trojans on Friday, leaving Oregon to search for another top defensive back.
Hill, ranked No. 3 in Ohio, No. 12 among cornerbacks, and No. 101 overall in the nation by 247Sports, had Oregon in his top four schools as he narrowed down his options. Despite the efforts of Oregon’s head coach Dan Lanning and defensive backs coach Chris Hampton, who made a strong push for him, Hill has decided to join USC, coached by Lincoln Riley.
“I’m 1,000% locked in with USC, and that’s where I want to make a name for myself,” Hill told 247Sports. “What set USC apart for me was how consistent they were in recruiting me and how well they treated me and my family.”
Although Hill had several official visits planned for May and June, including one with Oregon on June 13, he made his commitment to USC before his summer visits could take place. While Oregon may still make a final push, Hill’s decision appears firm.
In addition to Oregon, Hill chose USC over LSU, Ohio State, and Alabama. Although the Ducks were considered strong contenders, Ohio State emerged as the team closest to overtaking USC.
“I’d definitely say Ohio State. They really started pushing really hard for me,” Hill shared with 247Sports.
