Virginia Tech has secured another key addition to their roster, with former Temple linebacker Antwone Santiago committing to the Hokies through the transfer portal.
Santiago spent three seasons at Temple, recording 35 total tackles, with 25 of them coming last season. He was a key part of the Owls’ linebacker rotation and also contributed significantly to the special teams coverage units. Santiago set a career high with four tackles in a game against Navy and made his first career start at strong-side linebacker against Army. He also blocked a punt at UConn that led to a touchdown and finished with a career-best six tackles, including four solo stops, at East Carolina.
Virginia Tech has made several changes recently, including the departure of offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen to Ohio State and defensive coordinator Chris Marve. Both positions were filled by Sam Siefkes and Phillip Montgomery, respectively. Siefkes, who takes over as defensive coordinator, is known for his ability to adapt to various personnel. He previously coached the defense at Wofford, switching from a 4-3 to a 3-4 defense while leading the team to top-25 defensive rankings.

With a number of players leaving the team, including high-profile names like Mansoor Delane and Xavier Chaplin, Virginia Tech has seen 31 transfers from Brent Pry’s squad. Santiago will likely take on a versatile role in the Hokies’ defense, as Siefkes has a reputation for experimenting with various defensive schemes across different teams and organizations throughout his career.
