Jailen Bedford Transfers from UNLV to Virginia Tech
Jailen Bedford, a key role player for UNLV last season, has found a new home at Virginia Tech after entering the transfer portal. The Hokies’ head coach made the announcement of Bedford’s commitment to the program on Wednesday.
“We’re excited to welcome Jailen to the Hokies,” said Coach Young. “His journey has helped him become a resilient and dynamic player. Jailen made a strong impact toward the end of last season at UNLV, and we’re confident his skills and leadership will be a huge asset for us next season.”
Bedford, a 6’4 guard from Hutto, Texas, transferred to UNLV from Oral Roberts. While he started eight games for the Rebels, he primarily played a crucial bench role in their rotation. Over the course of the season, his performance and leadership both on and off the court improved. He finished the year averaging 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Bedford entered the transfer portal after UNLV’s former head coach, Kevin Kruger, was let go.
At Virginia Tech, Bedford is expected to play a similar role, contributing as a key bench player and possibly even earning a starting spot alongside fellow transfer Izaiah Pasha from Delaware. The ACC will provide a step up in competition, so Bedford’s ability to adapt will be closely watched. While his athleticism might not stand out, his developed skills and basketball instincts could help him succeed at this higher level—a prospect his new team is counting on.
