Drake Maye Explains Why Playing with Stefon Diggs Is Special as He Heads into His Second NFL Season
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – When Stefon Diggs was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2015, Drake Maye was still just a kid, not yet 13 years old. As a teenager, Maye often played Madden or participated in fantasy football leagues, where Diggs was a well-known name.
“Man, Stefon was one of those guys I followed back when I was in high school,” Maye said Thursday. “I had him on my fantasy team, played with him in Madden… he was young in the league back then.”
Fast-forward to 2025, and the two are now teammates.
“It’s pretty surreal to think about,” Maye continued. “Now, hopefully, I’ll be throwing to him during the season. He’s recovering well from his injury and has been around a lot. It’ll be exciting to throw to a guy who’s made the plays he has.”

Maye, who is entering his second NFL season, recognizes just how significant Diggs’ experience is.
“He’s made huge plays in the playoffs, played under different schemes, and with some of the best quarterbacks. I’m looking forward to seeing the game through his eyes. It’s my job to give him the chance to make those plays.”
Diggs, who tore his ACL in Week 8 of the 2024 season, responded to Maye’s comments with a playful two-emoji reply on Instagram. Despite his injury, Diggs has expressed confidence that he’ll be ready for Week 1 of the 2025 season, saying he’s ahead of schedule in his recovery.
“When the whistle blows, I’ll be ready,” Diggs told reporters during his introductory press conference in March. “I’m staying ahead of schedule, taking it day by day. I won’t get ahead of myself, but I’m feeling good. I’ll let you all know when I’m fully ready.”
If everything falls into place, the combination of Maye and Diggs could be a game-changing duo for the upcoming season.
