Big Deal on the Horizon as Devils and Canucks Seek to Strike

Two decades after Scott Niedermayer followed his brother Rob to Anaheim, the New Jersey Devils are poised to benefit from the power of family ties. Now, it seems only a matter of time before Quinn Hughes makes a similar move, crossing the continent to reunite with his brothers Jack and Luke.

While Quinn still has two years left on his contract with the Vancouver Canucks before becoming a free agent in 2027, it’s clear that a reunion with his brothers in New Jersey is on the horizon. There’s little reason to delay the inevitable.

For the Canucks, the timing is crucial. After a tumultuous season marked by internal turmoil and the loss of coach Rick Tocchet, Vancouver would be wise to trade Hughes sooner rather than later. By doing so, they can secure a valuable return — potentially a substantial one — for their star defenseman, unlike the Devils, who saw Scott Niedermayer leave in 2005 without getting anything in return when his contract expired amid the lockout.
