Howie Roseman Draws Attention With Reaction to Falcons’ Draft Trade
The Super Bowl champions may have taken a playful jab at Terry Fontenot and the Atlanta Falcons during the first night of the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Falcons stirred up plenty of criticism from NFL analysts after trading back into the first round, and some analysts even had some light-hearted fun at their expense.
Though not an analyst, Philadelphia Eagles GM Howie Roseman joined in on the fun.
A video from the Eagles’ draft room went viral on social media the next morning. It showed Roseman’s reaction right after the Falcons acquired a second first-round pick.
“For what? Just the pick?” Roseman asked, surprised by the news of the trade.
“No, a two and a one,” replied Julian Lurie, the Eagles’ business and football operations strategy expert.
Roseman, chuckling and shrugging his shoulders, responded, “I understand why people aren’t taking our deals,” drawing laughs from others in the room.
The Eagles were attempting to move up in the first round at the time, eventually trading up from No. 32 to No. 31 to select Alabama linebacker Jihaad Campbell.
It seems Roseman’s comment was a playful nod to the fact that teams like the Falcons were offering much larger packages to move up, which may have made it harder for the Eagles to get the deal they wanted.
Many on social media picked up on the joke and shared their own take on the situation.
To pull off the trade, the Falcons sent their No. 46 and No. 242 picks this year, along with a future 2026 first-rounder, to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for picks No. 26 and No. 101. With their new pick at No. 26, the Falcons grabbed edge rusher James Pearce Jr. as the second defensive player they selected in the first round.
While the Falcons only drafted five players in 2025, their future draft strategy continues to focus on trading up for immediate needs, even if it means dipping into future draft capital.
Despite the high cost of their trades, Atlanta’s group of rookies has the potential to make a significant impact in the years to come, and could be one of the franchise’s strongest draft classes in recent memory.
