Ravens Still Haven’t Made a Final Call on Key Question
The Baltimore Ravens have yet to reach a definitive decision on a major issue.
Last week’s NFL Draft drew a lot of attention to the team, and while many of their moves were well-received—such as selecting safety Malaki Starks in the first round—some picks raised eyebrows. A controversial choice came in the second round with Mike Green, prompting the front office to step in and clarify their reasoning.
However, one particular pick in the sixth round really stood out: the drafting of kicker Tyler Loop. Not only did Loop make history as the first player Baltimore has ever selected at this position, but it also sparked speculation about the future of Justin Tucker, the Ravens’ Hall of Fame kicker. Tucker, who has been a cornerstone of the franchise for over a decade, has faced some criticism recently, especially after his field goal percentage fell to a career-low 73.3%, placing him among the NFL’s least efficient kickers.
Tucker’s situation has been under increased scrutiny, especially with the possibility of a replacement looming. According to reports from ESPN and Sporting News, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh made it clear to Tucker that the team could draft a kicker, and that he should be prepared for that possibility. “He already understood the situation,” Harbaugh explained.
The Ravens’ front office, however, isn’t ready to take a side just yet. Whether Loop is seen as insurance for Tucker or a potential successor remains unclear. Baltimore GM Eric DeCosta stated that the team will take a closer look at Loop’s abilities to help guide their future decisions.
“We’ll see what his leg can do, and that will help inform our next steps,” DeCosta said.
