Trade Proposal Links Chris Kreider to Western Conference Team
A recent trade proposal has surfaced involving New York Rangers star Chris Kreider and the Utah Hockey Club. The idea centers around Kreider moving west in exchange for forward Barrett Hayton.
Kreider has been a subject of trade rumors for the past year, especially after reports indicated that Rangers general manager Chris Drury had considered moving him along with defenseman Jacob Trouba.
Proposed Trade Sees Kreider Move for Barrett Hayton
The suggested trade would send Kreider to Utah in exchange for 24-year-old Barrett Hayton, who has one year remaining on his two-year, $5.3 million contract. Hayton, a former first-round pick, would likely slot into a middle-six role for the Rangers, adding youth and depth to their lineup. Last season with Utah, he posted 20 goals and 26 assists, totaling 46 points in 82 games.
Hayton’s arrival would bring more balance to New York’s roster as they look to transition and build a more competitive team. Drury has indicated in recent months that he wants to change the team’s dynamic, especially after a season marked by instability and inconsistency.
Kreider Brings Veteran Presence to Utah’s Young Roster
On the other hand, Kreider would provide veteran leadership to Utah, a team that is still in the process of establishing itself as a competitive force after years of struggles in Arizona. His experience would be valuable as Utah seeks to build a strong foundation for the future, especially as they look to shake off their previous reputation as one of the NHL’s weaker teams.
Kreider’s Future with the Rangers
Though Kreider has been a key figure in the Rangers’ core, his recent performance has raised questions. Last season, he recorded just 22 goals and 8 assists, totaling 30 points in 68 games—well below his usual production. With two years left on his seven-year, $45.5 million contract, the Rangers may look to move on from his deal as they aim to reshape their roster under new head coach Mike Sullivan.
Many in the NHL believe the Rangers need to make a change and address Kreider’s contract to better position themselves for a Stanley Cup run. With the addition of Sullivan behind the bench, there is speculation that Drury will be advised on how to make necessary adjustments to the roster to ensure the team can contend at the highest level.
