Boston Red Sox RHP Walker Buehler recently revealed that he feels embarrassed by a recent ailment that landed him on the 15-day IL.
The Boston Red Sox have faced a significant number of injuries even before mid-May. The starting rotation has been particularly hard hit, with right-handed pitcher Walker Buehler being one of the most recent players sidelined.
Buehler was placed on the 15-day injured list over the weekend due to soreness in his right shoulder. This development has caused concern among Boston fans, who are already weary from the ongoing injury issues, and it remains to be seen how long Buehler will be out.
On a positive note, everything suggests that his recovery will be swift. However, the downside for Buehler is that the entire injury situation has left him feeling somewhat embarrassed.

On Sunday morning, Buehler told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo that he intends to miss just “two or three starts before rejoining Boston’s rotation.” However, the prospect of a quick recovery has left the offseason addition feeling somewhat embarrassed about being placed on the injured list in the first place.
“I’m a guy who has pitched through a lot of challenges. The fact that it was just bursitis and I ended up on the IL is a bit embarrassing for me,” Walker admitted. “There are specific tasks I need to complete during the week to prepare for a major league start, and I wasn’t able to meet those requirements.”
For those who may not know, bursitis is “inflammation” that can occur when bones, muscles, and joints rub against each other too much. WebMD states that this condition “typically improves on its own after a few weeks of resting the affected area,” which fits with Buehler’s recovery timeline.
Hopefully, the 30-year-old righty can pick up where he left off upon his return. The former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher had been showing improvement after a rough start to the season, going 3-0 with a 2.59 ERA and 22 strikeouts over his last four starts (24 1/3 innings).
If Buehler continues his recent solid performance, it would bode well for Boston’s prospects. Meanwhile, the Red Sox currently have +2000 odds to win the 2025 World Series, tied for the ninth-best odds according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
