Penn State and Dan Connor Strikes Again, An Elite Portal Add

Although Penn State’s primary focus in the transfer portal was on acquiring a wide receiver, James Franklin also aimed to strengthen the defense. Today, his wish was granted when former North Carolina linebacker Amare Campbell declared his intention to transfer to Penn State.

Since last Friday, Dan Connor has secured three commitments for the linebacker position, including high school recruits Terry Wiggins and Matheiu Lamah, after a relatively quiet spring. Under new defensive coordinator Jim Knowles, the Nittany Lions are expected to implement a base 4-2-5 defense. Returning starters for 2024 include Tony Rojas and Dominic DeLuca, but the addition of Amare Campbell is a significant boost to the linebacker corps.

As of today, Campbell is the No. 2 ranked linebacker still available in the transfer portal. In 2024, he recorded 76 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and forced one fumble while playing for North Carolina.

Welcome to Penn State, Amare!
