Bryce Duke, who played at Virginia Tech before transferring to Old Dominion, committed to Utah
Running back Bryce Duke is making his return to the Power Four level. The former Virginia prep star, who started his career at Virginia Tech, announced to 247Sports that he is transferring to Utah, which sought to enhance its roster with a powerful running back from its extensive transfer class.
Duke announced his decision on Monday, citing his role in the offense as a major factor in his choice. He also expressed comfort and familiarity with offensive coordinator Jason Beck.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 210 pounds, Duke signed with Virginia Tech from Leesburg (Va.) Tuscarora in the 2022 recruiting class. At that time, Beck was coaching at Virginia, located about 100 miles south of Tuscarora.
During his two seasons at Virginia Tech, Duke accumulated 128 yards on 29 carries. After transferring to Old Dominion, he rushed 46 times for 285 yards and caught nine passes for 58 yards and a touchdown over 10 games, including one start.
He will join Utah with one year of eligibility left.
Duke had a standout high school career at Tuscarora, drawing significant interest from Rutgers and Virginia Tech during the spring of his junior year before committing to the Hokies in the summer of 2021.
In his senior season, he played in 13 games, rushing for 2,852 yards and scoring 36 touchdowns on 322 carries, while also amassing 256 yards and five touchdowns on 17 receptions.
Duke is the newest signing in what has been a hectic offseason for the Utes in the transfer portal. He is the 20th player to join through the portal and the fourth running back added to the roster.

Along with Duke, Utah has also seen transfers from running backs Wayshawn Parker from Washington State, NaQuari Rogers from New Mexico, and Devin Green from UNLV this offseason.
