After the Washington Capitals’ crushing overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 1 of Round 2, head coach Spencer Carbery didn’t hold back when addressing his team’s performance. The game ended in dramatic fashion, with a shot from Carolina defenseman Jaccob Slavin sneaking through the legs of three players and past goalie Logan Thompson, sealing the victory for the Hurricanes. It was a frustrating moment for Washington, who had struggled throughout the game, especially with the Hurricanes controlling the play from the start.

Despite entering the game with confidence, Carbery’s team was outplayed in every area. Capitals goalie Logan Thompson faced a staggering 12 shots in the first period alone, while his counterpart, Frederik Andersen, only had to stop 14 shots the entire game—saving 13. In contrast, the Hurricanes took 33 shots on goal, further highlighting the Capitals’ struggles to generate offense. It was a stark contrast in shooting, and the result was a definitive loss for Washington, who will need to regroup quickly before Game 2.
