Wisconsin Badgers Add Former 4-Star SEC Wide Receiver via Transfer Portal
The Wisconsin Badgers have bolstered their revamped offense with a new playmaker. Dekel Crowdus, a former four-star recruit with experience in the SEC, has committed to Wisconsin after transferring from Kentucky and Hawaii. Here’s a closer look at the wide receiver who has displayed big-play potential in the Mountain West.
Crowdus, who signed with Wisconsin after initially being reported by 247Sports, confirmed his commitment through an Instagram post on Wednesday.
A former four-star prospect in the 2021 class by both 247Sports and ESPN, Crowdus spent three seasons at Kentucky, registering four catches for 82 yards, all during a redshirt freshman year in 2022. The Lexington, Kentucky native then transferred to Hawaii, where he had a standout 2024 season with 16 receptions for 402 yards (25.1 yards per catch) and four touchdowns.
Listed at 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Crowdus has one year of eligibility remaining.
His addition comes at a time when Wisconsin’s receiving corps has seen some changes, including the departure of two potential contributors during the spring transfer portal period. Mark Hamper, who arrived from Idaho, is now at California, while Quincy Burroughs has left the program without announcing his next destination.
Crowdus could play a key role in Wisconsin’s new “NFL-style” offense under offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes, which aims to stretch defenses with more downfield passing. During the spring, wideouts like Vinny Anthony II, Chris Brooks Jr., and Ohio State transfer Jayden Ballard showed their ability to make plays. Meanwhile, redshirt sophomore Trech Kekahuna was sidelined for most of spring practices due to injury, though wide receivers coach Jordan Reid highlighted Tyrell Henry’s strong performances in Kekahuna’s absence.
