Angels Manager Hints Outfielder May Lose Starting Role
Los Angeles Angels manager Ron Washington has hinted that outfielder Jo Adell could lose his spot in the starting lineup due to ongoing struggles both defensively and offensively.
Adell isn’t the only Angel dealing with hitting challenges this season, as the entire roster has faced difficulties in generating consistent offense game after game.
In Tuesday’s match against the Toronto Blue Jays, Adell made an impact by hitting a home run after coming in as a pinch hitter, a notable moment since he wasn’t in the starting lineup.
Adell is again not starting in Wednesday’s game, prompting questions about his role. When asked if Adell remains a starter in either center or right field, Washington offered a vague response.

He later said Adell is taking too many pitches down the middle of the plate, which means he's "guessing."

It seems Washington has moved Adell into a more fluid role as a rotational outfielder rather than a guaranteed starter.
This season, Adell has struggled, posting a -0.6 WAR and a very low 51 wRC+ (which measures run creation, with league average at 100). His slash line is .183/.224/.323, with three home runs, 15 RBIs, and one stolen base.
