Houston Texans Make Notable Move for Seahawks’ Linebacker
The Houston Texans have made an intriguing move to bolster their defense.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Texans have claimed linebacker Jackson Woodard, formerly of the Seattle Seahawks, off waivers.
Woodard, a 6-foot-2, 234-pound linebacker, was an undrafted free agent out of UNLV, where he spent two years after transferring from Arkansas, where he played for three seasons.
After the draft last month, the Seahawks signed the 22-year-old as a UDFA but decided to release him on Tuesday. Now, Woodard is headed to Houston to join DeMeco Ryans’ defensive squad.
In his final season at UNLV, Woodard was one of the top tacklers in the FBS, ranking fourth with 135 total tackles. He also led his team with 17 tackles for loss and 12 pass breakups. His stellar performance earned him Mountain West Defensive Player of the Year honors and a spot on the First-Team All-Mountain West.
Woodard will now compete for a spot in the Texans’ linebacker rotation, potentially carving out a role as a young depth player on a strong Houston defense for the 2025 season.
