Illinois Basketball Lands Commitment from In-State High School Champion

Brayden Fagbemi, a 6-foot point guard from Benet Academy, the 2026 4A IHSA state champion, has committed to play for Illinois.

Fagbemi has already outperformed many current Illinois players in the State Farm Center, and now, he will be joining the Illini.

On Wednesday, Fagbemi, a senior from Lisle, Illinois, confirmed on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he will be heading to Illinois.

Previously committed to Division II Truman State, Fagbemi reopened his recruitment after a coaching change. While it’s unclear if Illinois has offered him a scholarship or if he’ll join as a walk-on, he is undoubtedly a player who can make an impact.

As a senior at Benet Academy, Fagbemi averaged 13 points, seven assists, and five rebounds per game. He also contributed 14 points and six assists in the Redwings’ state championship win at the State Farm Center in March.

Despite being a bit undersized for Big Ten play, Fagbemi is known for his high basketball IQ and sharp shooting, making him a strong addition to the Illini roster.
