Mets Add Veteran Bullpen Arm with Minor League Deal
The New York Mets have strengthened their bullpen by signing veteran left-handed pitcher Colin Poche to a minor league contract.
The Mets have faced significant challenges with the health of their left-handed pitchers in 2025. It started with Sean Manaea, who was sidelined during spring training with a right oblique strain. While Manaea is expected to return in a few months, David Peterson has stepped in and filled his spot in the rotation.
However, the Mets’ bullpen has been hit even harder, particularly with the loss of left-handed relievers A.J. Minter and Danny Young, both of whom need surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
The Mets have signed LHP Colin Poche to a minor league contract.
Poche, 31, pitched for the Nationals earlier this season and pitched for the Rays from 2019-2024, missing the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

While the Mets recently added Génesis Cabrera to the big league roster, it was clear they would need more bullpen depth, especially from the left side. On May 7, SNY reported the Mets had signed Poche, who will now join the Triple-A Syracuse squad.
Poche, 31, was designated for assignment by the Washington Nationals earlier this month after struggling to a 11.42 ERA in 8.2 innings pitched this season. However, he has had solid outings in the past, including a 3.86 ERA in 37 innings pitched for the Nationals in 2024 and a 2.23 ERA over 66 appearances for the Tampa Bay Rays in 2023.
Signing him to a minor league deal represents a low-risk, high-reward move for the Mets, offering the potential for significant upside as the season progresses.
