Ohio State Buckeyes Extend Intriguing Quarterback Offer on Thursday

The Ohio State Buckeyes recently made an intriguing quarterback offer to a prospect from the class of 2028. When a recruit isn’t ranked by major recruiting platforms but still receives an offer from a prestigious program like Ohio State, it often raises questions.

One possibility is that a recruiting site missed the player, though that’s rarely the case. These sites have been around for years, capitalizing on insider information and breaking news.

I am Blessed and truly honored to receive an offer from THEE Ohio State University! 🅾️-H🌰@CoachFess @oclionsfootball @CoachDanny10 @ChadSimmons_ @BrandonHuffman @BlairAngulo @CoachKeanu @RyanMayhew_ @BoominBuckeyes @ryandaytime @TomLoy247 @PrepRedzoneNext pic.twitter.com/9d6v6VWBiy

A more likely scenario is that the player had an outstanding performance at a camp, quickly gaining attention and making the jump from an unknown to a rising star. Another possibility is that a scout discovered an underrated talent who’s just now getting recognized.

There’s also the case of a player gaining early attention well before their class is expected to take center stage. That seems to be the case for Treyvone Towns Jr., an unranked quarterback from Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, California. Though he’s not yet ranked by 247Sports, On3, or Rivals, it’s clear that his name is now on the radar of top programs like Ohio State, as well as several others.

On Thursday, Towns announced that he had received an offer from none other than Ohio State’s Ryan Day and the Buckeyes.

So, who is Towns Jr.? At 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, he’s just finishing his freshman year of high school, which is why his ranking hasn’t been established yet. But with this big-time offer from OSU, it’s likely that ranking will change soon. Ohio State isn’t alone in their interest—Towns has already received offers from Arizona State, Arkansas, Toledo, Virginia Tech, Washington, Texas Tech, Oregon State, Kentucky, Penn State, and Purdue over the past year.

Given his impressive size and growing list of offers, Towns looks poised to become one of the top quarterbacks in the 2028 class. Ohio State, recognizing his potential, is smart to get involved early in his recruitment.
