Purdue Transfer WR Jayden Dixon-Veal Commits to Cal
Wide receiver Jayden Dixon-Veal, a transfer from Purdue, has decided to commit to Cal, according to a report by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports.
Dixon-Veal, who has one year of eligibility left, appeared in only three games in 2024 during what was initially considered his senior season. In those games, he totaled three catches for 23 yards, all of which came during the season opener against Indiana State. That game saw him make two of his three receptions for the Boilermakers, who finished the year with a 1-11 record.
The 6-foot, 190-pound receiver struggled with an undisclosed injury that sidelined him for a significant portion of the season and limited his participation in Purdue’s spring practices. Nevertheless, he made an impressive one-handed catch during Purdue’s spring game, which was highlighted in a video on Twitter.
Other schools, including Baylor and Boise State, had offered Dixon-Veal after he entered the transfer portal.
Dixon-Veal was more involved in Purdue’s offense during the 2023 season, where he played in 11 games and started five. He finished with 16 receptions for 142 yards and one touchdown, including solid performances against Nebraska (four catches for 38 yards) and Michigan (four catches for 32 yards).
Originally from Rancho Cucamonga, California, Dixon-Veal started his college career at the junior college level at the College of San Mateo. Coming out of junior college in 2023, he chose Purdue over offers from Illinois, UNLV, UConn, and Oregon State.
Dixon-Veal is the second wide receiver transfer Cal has added this spring, following Wisconsin transfer Mark Hamper. Before spring practices began, Cal also brought in Dazmin James and Jacob De Jesus from the transfer portal.
On the other side, Cal saw four wide receivers enter the transfer portal this spring, with notable departures including Tobias Merriweather (Utah) and Jonathan Brady (Indiana). Three more receivers followed shortly after the 2024 season ended, transferring to UCLA (Mikey Matthews), Nebraska (Nyziah Hunter), and Oklahoma (Josiah Martin).
