Kyle Freeland Shares Emotional Message with Rockies Fans Amid Historically Struggling Season
Being a Colorado Rockies fan right now is tough.
Through the first month of the 2025 season, the Rockies have the worst record in Major League Baseball by a wide margin. With just six wins in their first 37 games, they also have a staggering run differential of -109.
On Thursday, the Rockies were swept by the Detroit Tigers in a doubleheader at Coors Field, losing both games by a combined score of 21–3.

Kyle Freeland, who started the first game and allowed five runs on 11 hits over just three innings, struggled to hold back tears when speaking to the media afterward. When asked what message he would share with fans during this rough stretch, the veteran pitcher’s response was brief but heartfelt:
“Keep believing in us,” Freeland said, his voice wavering as he walked away from the podium.
Freeland is one of the longest-tenured players on the Rockies, now in his ninth season with the team. Having made his MLB debut in 2017, he was part of the Rockies’ playoff appearances in 2017 and 2018. Since then, he’s witnessed the team’s ongoing struggles and underperformance. It’s clear that the mounting losses are weighing on him.
For context, Colorado’s current 6–31 record translates to a win percentage of just .162. Only one team in MLB history has had a worse full-season win percentage: the 1899 Cleveland Spiders, who finished 20–134. Unless the Rockies can turn things around soon, they may be on track to approach those historic lows.
