Seattle Mariners Re-sign Veteran Pitcher Casey Lawrence in Roster Move
Veteran right-handed pitcher Casey Lawrence has rejoined the Seattle Mariners on a minor league deal. Lawrence has spent much of the season bouncing between the Mariners’ roster and the minors, with a brief stint at the Toronto Blue Jays after the Mariners designated him for assignment on a couple of occasions.
On the year, Lawrence has posted a 1-1 record with a 4.97 ERA in 12.2 innings, appearing in five games and striking out five batters.
At 37, Lawrence is a five-year veteran with experience in the majors, having played for the Mariners, Blue Jays, and St. Louis Cardinals. Over his career, he’s made 64 appearances, with a 5-5 record and a 6.59 ERA. He previously appeared in 23 games for the Mariners in 2017 and 11 more in 2018 before returning this season.

Lawrence adds valuable depth to the Mariners’ minor league system and could be called up to provide a spot start or serve as a long-relief option. He stepped in for several innings in relief when Logan Gilbert was injured with a Grade 1 flexor strain against the Miami Marlins earlier in the season.
Since Lawrence isn’t currently on the 40-man roster, he will need to earn his way back into the major league fold. However, given his prior contributions, it’s possible he could make an impact once again.
The Mariners are off on Thursday but will resume play on Friday with a new series against the Blue Jays at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. PT.
Seattle (22-14) currently leads the American League West. The Mariners will send veteran right-hander Luis Castillo to the mound, while the Blue Jays have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
