Trade Proposal Sees Bruins Landing $68 Million Star in Major Move

After a disappointing season, the Boston Bruins are aiming to turn things around quickly, and a proposed trade might be the key.

Using PuckPedia’s PuckGM tool, one user suggested a deal that would see the Bruins land Mika Zibanejad from the New York Rangers in a high-profile offseason trade. This move would be a blockbuster, and it seems to benefit the Rangers in terms of salary cap relief. The deal would allow New York to move Zibanejad’s hefty contract, while also giving up a second-round pick to take on Casey Mittelstadt.

For the Bruins, acquiring Zibanejad would address their need for a top-line center, a role they’ve been missing since the retirements of Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. Zibanejad, entering the fourth year of his eight-year, $68 million contract, could form an exciting pairing with David Pastrnak. Last season, the Swedish forward recorded 20 goals and 42 assists for 62 points in 82 games, and a change of scenery might benefit him.

In exchange, the Rangers would receive Mittelstadt, who could help fill the gap left by Zibanejad. Mittelstadt, a third-line center, has two years remaining on his three-year, $17.25 million deal. He tallied 15 goals and 25 assists for 40 points in 81 games last season, split between the Colorado Avalanche and Bruins.
