Auburn blasted South Carolina in a sweep of the Gamecocks
AUBURN, Alabama – Looking back at the 2025 Auburn baseball season, a loss to Mississippi State might ultimately be regarded as a pivotal moment for the Tigers. Despite a series sweep against LSU, Auburn struggled offensively, scoring only seven runs over the last two games of that series and then getting swept at Texas the following weekend with just seven runs in three games.
In the first game against the Bulldogs, which Auburn won 6-5, they found themselves down 10-1 after four innings. Realizing they needed to be more aggressive at the plate to make a comeback, the Tigers hit four solo home runs in the next three innings, narrowing the gap to just two runs. Although they ultimately lost, that game may have marked a resurgence in Auburn’s offensive performance.
Auburn exploded for 14 runs in a Sunday victory that weekend, and since that day, their offense has remained on fire. After a stretch of five consecutive games without scoring at least six runs in SEC play, the Tigers have now hit that mark in eight of their last nine league contests.
The team put everything together for a three-game sweep of South Carolina, where they set a program record for runs scored in an SEC series with 46. This marked the first time since 2012 that Auburn scored 10 or more runs in all three games of a series.
Head coach Butch Thompson has been anticipating this level of offensive production since early in the season, and he finally saw it realized.
“I’ve been saying that I believe we’re more offensive than we’ve shown at times this season,” Thompson remarked. “I was hopeful this was coming — and this isn’t just about one series. These are the kind of performances you remember. We saw how many players could contribute, and that stood out throughout the weekend. I think we reached our potential.”
Thompson noted that even in a significant loss, the offense found a spark and saw a similar determination in a dominating win against South Carolina. Despite being ahead, Auburn maintained strong at-bats, which Thompson interpreted as a sign that the team is fully committed to their approach.
“I think that brought consistency throughout the series and during a long doubleheader,” he said. “Sometimes teams stop evaluating themselves when they have a big lead, but we kept striving for good at-bats. That maturity, with players like Gabe Gross encouraging the team and Ike and Coop motivating everyone, helped us play three complete offensive games.”
After an impressive offensive performance over the weekend, hitting .451 as a team with 11 home runs, Auburn’s overall batting stats in SEC play have greatly improved as they gear up for their final series of the season against Ole Miss starting Thursday.
Currently, Auburn is batting .288 as a team, with five players hitting over .300, led by Ike Irish and freshman Chris Rembert, both at an impressive .394. Irish has 10 home runs and 29 RBIs, while Rembert boasts six home runs and a .509 on-base percentage. Third baseman Eric Guevara is also on a roll, hitting .381 in league play after an exceptional 12-for-15 series against South Carolina, where he recorded two home runs, two doubles, one triple, and drove in nine runs.
