The Atlanta star hasn’t played in almost a calendar year.

Almost a year has passed since the Atlanta Braves lost star right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. to a torn ACL—a crushing blow that brought a premature end to his 2024 season.

But now, there’s finally reason for optimism in Atlanta.

The Braves announced Tuesday morning that Acuña will begin a rehab assignment with the Florida Complex League Braves in North Port, Florida. The 27-year-old, now in his eighth MLB season since debuting in 2018, is taking a key step forward in his recovery.

For Braves fans, the news offers a welcome boost as the team sits at 20-21 and trails the first-place New York Mets by 6.5 games in the National League East.

Acuña has a career batting average of .289, alongside a .379 on-base percentage and a .525 slugging percentage. While he has faced some challenges in maintaining his health, his 162-game averages are remarkable, featuring 37 home runs, 94 RBIs, 130 runs scored, and 44 stolen bases.

In 2023, during his most recent complete season, he earned the NL MVP award.
