Indiana Wins Seventh Consecutive Governor’s Cup Over Purdue

Indiana secured its seventh straight victory in the all-sports Governor’s Cup competition against archrival Purdue, with a series win in baseball that was clinched by a 14-4 win on Sunday.

The Hoosiers now hold an uncatchable 11-7 lead in the Governor’s Cup, with only the men’s and women’s track and field championships left to be decided. However, even if Purdue wins both, they cannot surpass Indiana.

The Governor’s Cup is determined by head-to-head matchups across 20 sports where Indiana and Purdue compete. Points are awarded for victories, with half-points given in home-and-home series.

Indiana swept Purdue in men’s and women’s cross country, football, wrestling, men’s and women’s diving, women’s basketball, men’s golf, softball, and baseball. Purdue earned full points in volleyball, tennis (men’s and women’s), indoor track and field (men’s and women’s), and women’s golf. The teams split points in women’s soccer (with a 0-0 draw) and men’s basketball.

Indiana has held the Governor’s Cup since 2019, and recent years have seen dominant performances. The Hoosiers’ 15.5-4.5 victory in 2023 was their largest margin, while their 13-7 win in 2024 was the second-largest.

If Indiana’s track and field teams outperform Purdue at the Big Ten Conference meet, the Hoosiers will match their 2024 victory.
